How do I get to Sitka?

Sitka is situated on Baranof Island in southeast Alaska. It is accessible only by air and sea. Alaska Airlines has daily year-round jet service and Delta Airlines offers summer seasonal jet service. Please refer to their respective websites for available flights and pricing. The Alaska Marine Highway and many cruise lines that sail the Inside Passage have Sitka as a port of call.

Do I need a vehicle?

Whether or not you will need a vehicle depends on your accommodations and other planned activities. We’ll take care of transportation to and from the fishing spots. Please note that Sitka’s public transportation options are limited, and taxi services can be unreliable. If you’re interested in having a vehicle during your stay, we have a minivan listed on Turo. Check availability for your dates here: Minivan Rental

The “River Runner” is a 24’ Hewescraft aluminum hull boat with fully enclosed cab powered by a 200 HP Suzuki outboard engine. The boat is equipped with a kerosene heater, plenty of room for bringing extra gear and a nice warm ride to and from the fishing grounds.

Where do we meet?

We’ll coordinate to meet either at the harbor or the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal. If you don’t have transportation or your lodging isn’t nearby, don’t worry—we’ll pick you up on the morning of your fishing trip and drop you off after your adventure.

What types of fishing trips do you offer?

We offer half day, full day and multi-day trips on fresh or saltwater. All of our freshwater trips are walk and wade fishing where we access the rivers by boat or float plane. For a fly out, we will be dropped off in the morning by an air charter service and then picked up in the afternoon and returned to Sitka. Our freshwater trips are mainly fishing rivers and creeks, but some lake fishing is available. We have trips that include lodging in Sitka and trips that do not.

Can I bring fish home with me?

Technically, yes. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has set bag and possession limits on freshwater and saltwater, but we promote catch and release to help ensure a healthy population of salmon, steelhead, trout and char in years to come. If you want to harvest fish from the saltwater and/or the freshwater and it is legal, we can arrange to have it processed at local processor here in Sitka. The cost is around $4/lb of outgoing weight and can generally be taken home as checked baggage on your airplane.

Do you sell any Classic Casting gear?

Yes! We have a variety of customized Simms hats, rain shells, key chains and t-shirts.

How Do I Obtain a Fishing License?

You can purchase a fishing license online. You can then print it out or save a digital copy on your phone. You must be able to produce a paper or digital license while fishing. The website is https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/store/. Be sure to purchase the license for the correct date(s) you will be fishing in Alaska.

How Do I Ensure I Have the Right Gear?

Prior to your arrival, we will email you a questionnaire so we can outfit you correctly.  You can also view the wader chart below to choose the right size for you.
